![]() Other indie RPGs I'll second are Cosmic Star Heroine, Rise of the Third Power and its spiritual predecessor Ara Fell are both fun though very beholden to stock assets. ![]() I absolutely love the art style, the characters are wonderful and "real" with actual problems and faults and relationships, the music is ridiculously great, the animations are so great, the story about a pair of sisters and their tumultuous relationship is woven so great into the narrative, and it's got incredible representation for LGBTQ+ characters, including at least one non-binary character as well. Ikenfell is a game I've recommended like a dozen times to crickets since playing it earlier this year. I encountered some weird glitches with the battle UI and a couple crashes when playing the Switch version, but it's available on Steam and PS4 as well.ĮDIT: ^Dang, ya beat me. I especially liked the Style system for powering up your abilities and how status ailments work by breaking down a "shield" each enemy has to that ailment, rather than hoping you land the 5% chance of connecting. * A fast-paced battle system with some inspiration from Chrono Trigger while having plenty of its own unique elements. * 11 unique party members each with a number of different builds depending on what techniques and equipment you assign them. There's almost no downtime and nothing which felt like filler. * The story isn't deep and the characters are mostly 2-dimensional, but they're fun enough and the story allows for a constant stream of new engaging scenarios. ![]() * Old-school Phantasy Star-style Sci-Fi RPG with 3 different planets to explore Gonna keep spreading the love for Cosmic Star Heroine. ![]()
